Begun during the Spring of the junior year and completed Fall of the senior year, the Extended Essay has a prescribed limit of 4,000 words. It offers students the opportunity to investigate a topic of individual interest, and acquaints them with the independent research and writing skills that are expected at the university level. IB students will work with a faculty adviser throughout the process. Please see the handouts, presentation slides, and sample papers below for further information.
